What You Should Know When Putting Music To Your PSP

26 April 2010 No Comment

This is a guide on how to put your saved music files on your PC, or your own CD's and placing them onto your PSP and note that The most common form of music you should put on your PSP, is MP3 Format, which you can transfer CD's, to MP3's using MusicMatch JukeBox using the recorder.

What types of files can be placed in the Memory Stick of my PSP, you might be asking. Well, you can actually play video, image and audio files as needed on your PSP once you have transferred such files into the Memory Stick. Not a bad deal considering you may have bought your PSP mainly for gaming in the first place.

Here are the steps for how to put music to your PSP:

1. Check which firmware version your PSP is using for transferring files from computer to PSP. Generally, if you have older firmware versions, these will not permit all file types to be recognized. The newer firmware versions are better to use for putting music into your PSP.

2. Get your PSP, a USB cable that is fitted with a Mini-B connector at one of its two ends, a Memory Stick (which should be a Memory Stick Duo for best results), and your personal computer together in one location.

3. Look for a PSP Memory Stick slot in your PSP. It should be at the left side of your PSP when the PSP is facing you.

4. Switch on the PSP. Plug the Mini-B connector end of your USB cable into your PSP. The other end of your USB cable should be fitted with a standard USB connector at its other end which is to be linked to your computer.

5. Look for the PSP home menu. You should see the "Settings" icon on this menu so scroll to that.

6. Under "Settings", you should be able to see a "USB Connection" icon. Press down on the X button so that "USB Mode" will appear on the PSP. This allows your personal computer (whether it is a PC or a Mac) to recognize the PSP as your USB storage device.

7. Your Memory Stick may have a folder labeled "PSP" which might also be labeled "Portable Storage Device" instead. If not, you can create such a folder with the Finder of your Mac or the Windows Explorer of your PC.

8. Inside your "PSP" folder, you can now make a folder labeled "MUSIC" which will house all your audio files. You must drag and drop audio files into the "MUSIC" folder.

9. If you are using a Mac, you may now eject your drive from the Mac simply by dragging and dropping the drive icon into the Trash icon. If you are using a Personal Computer, search for the "Safely Remove Hardware" command found on the bottom menu bar on your screen then clicking on that command. Both these steps will result in your PSP being disconnected properly from the computer you are using.

Incidentally, the Memory Stick of your PSP has a dual function, meaning you can use it both for storage of the music files and for transfer of the music files to another PSP. You should expect to use up to five minutes to transfer your music file using the Memory Stick though. Still, once you learn to be patient at using your PSP and its Memory Stick, you should find the whole process much easier than you initially thought.
